Never Tell Me the Odds

Belgian playing card manufacturer Cartamundi, which is Latin for “cards of the world”, recently acquired a Star Wars license to produce playing cards and – you guessed it – the very first official poker chip set!

Still hot off the success of landing the contract to produce the cards and chips appearing in the latest James Bond film Casino Royale, Cartamundi will be unleashing a stellar poker set this October for Star Wars fans, complete with 200 chips, two exclusive casino-quality card decks, a chrome Death Star dealer button, and Star Wars branded case.

The stand-out feature of this set, of course, is the presentation. The 100 blue, 50 green, and 50 red 10.2-gram translucent chips are illuminated within the case by 72 LEDs shining through diffuser lenses, brilliantly illuminating the set when opened. It’s no mistake that the colors resemble lightsaber blades – just be mindful of how you wage them at the table.

Expect to ante up about $200 bucks for this baby — yes, you can buy your own chips for that — and StarWarsShop will be posting this shortly –- stay tuned….

Dang. I thought for a moment that this would be a Sabaac set. Maybe in a few years…

  2. Stooge says:

    I am altering the deal…

How long before the $300 set, with added purple chips?

  3. zachstarwalker says:

ill give you 20 bucks and a lightsaber for one of them.

  4. luckyjawa says:

“yes, you can buy your own chips for that”

“But who’s gonna buy-in kid? You?”

  5. Sir Awesome says:

    One for the collectors.

  6. vadersgirl33 says:

A deal like that is going fast!!! All the collectors are going to buy one, I’m sure!! I too would have thought of coming up with an actual Sabaac set. This is cool, though!!

  7. iuchewie says:

will probably have to buy a set just as a collectible… which i’m guessing is what they were hoping for.

  8. SITHSPAWN* says:

I’ll be getting it. I’ve been looking into getting myself a set of custom made chips anyway. Just didn’t know if it would be legal or not or if the company would put a Star Wars logo on them. The only way I wouldn’t get this if they actually look like crap once you take them out of the case, we still haven’t seen what’s on them.

  9. jerit says:

    in the words of lukeskywalker

we can by our own ship with that!

i’m guessing payments can’t be plit into seperate payments each month or week… or can they?

  10. Eileen says:

Count me in! I have to have a set!

  11. OddsAreForPansies says:

lol. i want a sabacc set. it’s been too long since the idea came up n the cards still arent made

  12. theforce4ever says:

Please tell me the cards are going to be WPT style and not crappy paper! If so I would totally invest in this set. Now all we need is a professional Chess Set ( All Pewter) characters and nice oak playing surface!

  13. Darth Lithonion says:

I saw those Belgian guys at the Celebration Europe and they were showing off the set. It looks fantastic and I’m sure we’re all getting our hands at one of those. Hopefully no one will be tearing arms out of their sockets for it, though.

  14. Jim Trupp says:

I gotta have that!!! When will it be available in the US?

  15. pokerwars? says:

I have seen the set–totally cool. A totally hot collector piece and the dealer button is 1/4″
chrome of the Death Star. They need to sell this item also separate for fans to carry in their pocket.
